Both Credit Karma and Experian sites said I had an Excellent chance of getting this card. I was completely surprised because I have years of excellent payment history with all my cards including two other Capital One cards and am at 22% credit usage. I was so shocked I got denied, I even applied for the Chase Sapphire card right afterwards and was given $6500.

She was given a $3K limit!

Comments are correct, Capital One has no Credit Department (no one who can change anything or talk to you), only an “algorithm” that is always “perfect” at assessing ones creditworthiness. CapitalOne has no way to provide a copy of an online application or to give you a reason for your credit line!

I applied about the same time with same scores and income, same age and I instantly received a $30K line. Only difference in qualifications and history appears to be due to sexism. Women especially beware.

I have an 820 credit score (according to their CreditWise product, and others) ,160k income and very little debt. I was approved immediately for the Venture Card with a $5000 limit. When I read the details for the account online, it showed that the interest rate was 25.49% for my card. I called Capital One and was basically told “too f***in bad” because this is determined by your “creditworthiness ” by their credit department ( which you cannot speak to) and they don’t change the interest rate once the account is established. I don’t carry balances on cards as a rule, but its insane that this company would charge someone with excellent credit and 40 years of credit history the same rate as they would for someone with bad credit on one of their entry level cards. If I close the account, it will hurt my credit , so I’m stuck with that rate , apparently forever. There should be a law requiring disclosure of your rate after they check your credit but before you accept the card. This is the kind of usury rates that banks have been getting away with for years, and the consumer has no way to “shop” for a decent rate for any type of consumer credit.

Hey Chris, unfortunately, they don’t have a public 5/24 rule like Chase, so there’s no way to 100% know. I was able to get auto-approved being over 5/24 with Capital One, so I think it just depends on everyone’s different credit portfolio.
