New Chase Freedom Flex℠ cardholders can earn a $200 bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
Who is Eligible?
You’re eligible for this bonus if you have not received another new card member bonus in the last 24 months for the card you’re applying for.
The Chase Freedom Flex has the same fixed 5% and 3% bonus categories as the Freedom Unlimited. However, instead of earning 1.5% back on basic purchases, you earn 5% on the first $1,500 in combined quarterly spending (once activated) in rotating bonus categories.
As a reminder, the Freedom Flex earns:
- 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate
- 5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards®
- 3% cash back on drugstore purchases and dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services

Chase Freedom Flex Bonus Categories
For the 1st quarter of 2023, the Freedom bonus categories for the Chase Freedom® (no longer accepting new applications) and Chase Freedom Flex℠ cards are:
- Grocery stores (excluding Walmart®)
- Target (qualifying grocery purchases made at Target will only earn a total of 5%)
- Fitness clubs & gym memberships
Once activated, the first $1,500 in combined purchases on the above categories made in January, February, and March 2023 earn 5% cash back (5x Ultimate Rewards per $1) and then 1% back. Activate by March 14, 2023, to earn the rewards.
